The April palette
April birth flower
Daisy
Bellis perennis
The daisy stands for innocence, purity and true love.
Daisy colors & meanings
- White: innocence and purity
- Pink: gentleness and affection
- Yellow: friendship and happiness
The English name comes from "day's eye," because the flower opens at dawn and closes at dusk. Daisies appear in Egyptian ceramics and Celtic legend, and generations of children have played "he loves me, he loves me not" with their petals.
Fun facts
- Each daisy is two flowers in one: the white rays and the yellow center are separate kinds of tiny florets.
- Daisies are edible and have a mild, slightly bitter taste.
- Gerbera, Shasta and oxeye daisies are all relatives that are often used in "daisy" bouquets.
April birth flower
Sweet Pea
Lathyrus odoratus
The sweet pea stands for blissful pleasure, gratitude and "thank you for a lovely time".
Sweet Pea colors & meanings
- Pink: thankfulness
- Purple: grace and elegance
Sweet peas were sent from Sicily to England in 1699, and Victorian breeder Henry Eckford turned them into the frilly, perfumed flowers we know today. They were so popular in Edwardian England that the flower became a symbol of the era.
Fun facts
- Sweet pea seeds are mildly toxic, so they aren't the same as edible garden peas.
- The more you cut sweet peas, the more they bloom.
April birth flower tattoo ideas
Daisies are one of the most requested birth flower tattoos because they are simple and instantly recognizable. A single head-on bloom works as a tiny ankle or finger tattoo, and a chain of daisies makes a pretty wraparound band.

Diamond stands for eternal love, strength and invincibility. Usually colorless, but "fancy" diamonds come in yellow, pink, blue, green and more.
